ADORATION SERVICE
commemoration of the sacred heart of jesus
Friday is a specially dedicated to the Sacred Heart of
Jesus. St. Margaret Mary Alaqoque was greatly privileged by our Lord who
revealed to her His Sacred Heart burning with love for humanity. According to
her, devotion to the Heart of Jesus consists chiefly in a life wholly united to
that loving Heart so as to feel what It feels, to will what It wills, to love
what It loves. Such a life of union with the Heart of Christ implies that we
try to please him by doing all that His Heart desires and to please God by
making our own and offering up to Him the love, the sentiments, the virtues and
the merits of the Heart of His Son.
Such a life
led in union with the Heart of Christ will be wholly a life of love and of
loving reparation. Whatever practices St. Margaret Mary may recommend, she
considers them above all as exercises of love.
To love this
divine Heart that has loved us so much and that thirsts to be loved, to render
it love for love, this for her is the essence of the devotion. He who
understands this, lives but to love Our Lord and to make Him loved by others.
This love will take every form, and employ every means; it will pray, it will
act; it will suffer. But in everything it will be always love. And
consequently, through love, the soul devoted to the Sacred Heart will live the
life of Jesus in itself; its life will be the life of Jesus.
Keeping these
in mind let us listen to the readings taken from the life of St. Margaret Mary.
St.M.M: Once as I was praying before the Blessed
Sacrament He disclosed to me the marvels
of His love and the inexplicable secrets
of His Sacred Heart which so far He had concealed from me. Then it was that for the first time, He opened to me His Divine Heart in a manner so real and sensible
as to be beyond all doubt.
Jesus: My Divine Heart is so inflamed with love for men
or for you in particular that, being
unable any longer to contain within Itself
the flames of its burning charity, It must needs spread them abroad by your means, and manifest Itself to men in order to enrich them with the precious
treasures which I discover to you and
which contain graces of sanctification and
salvation necessary to withdraw them from the abyss of perdition.
ST.M.M: On one occasion, whilst the Blessed Sacrament was exposed... Jesus Christ, my gentle Master, presented Himself to me , all resplendent with glory, His five wounds shining
like so many
suns.... It was then that He discovered to me the unspeakable marvels of His pure love
and showed me to what an excess He had
loved men from whom He received only ingratitude
and neglect. He said:
Jesus: I feel this more acutely, than all that I
suffered during my Passion. If only
they would make some return for my love, I should
think but little of all I have done for them and would wish, were it possible, to suffer still more. But the return they make me for all my eagerness to do them
good is to reject me and treat me with
coldness. Do you at least give me the pleasure
of making up for the ingratitude.
St.M.M: On another occasion before the my Lord
discovering His heart said:
Jesus: Behold this Heart, which has so loved men that It
has spared nothing, even to
exhausting and consuming Itself, in order to give
them proofs of Its love; and in return I receive from the greater number of them nothing but
ingratitude by reason of their
irreverence and sacrilege, and by the coldness and contempt which they show Me in this Sacrament of Love. But what I feel the most keenly is that it is
hearts which are consecrated to Me,
that treat Me thus. Therefore, I ask of you that
the Friday after the Octave of the Blessed Sacrament be kept as a special Feast in honor of My Heart, by receiving communion on that day and making to my Heart a
reparation of honor for all the
unworthy treatments It has received during the
time that It has been exposed on the altars. I promise you that My Heart shall shed in abundance the
influence of Its divine love upon all
those who shall thus honor It, and cause It
to be so honored.
