ADVENT WREATH SERVICE
INTRODUCTION
( Setting: Total Darkness)
Advent is a time of waiting for the birth of the
Lord, a memorial of the first coming among people of the incarnate son of
God. It is also a time of expectation of
the second coming of the Lord at the end of time.
Following the example of our Lady who lived with
intimacy and grace the mystery of the Incarnation the Salesian discovers,
purifies and deepens his attentive availability to the things of God and needs
of the present times. He matures
silently in the contemplation of the mystery of the Lord's birth and encourages
the young to long for the Lord in their lives.
Let us now ask the Lord to bless these weeks of
advent and this wreath so that as we journey with its symbolism we may be
blessed with His abundant graces.
BLESSING
People waited for thousands of years for Christ whom God had promised. Each year, the church uses four weeks before Christmas to remember the long years waiting for Jesus. Our advent wreath is a reminder to us that the birth of Jesus is EMMANUEL (GOD WITH US) sharing our lives. His life is light to show us the way. It is also a reminder to us that we must work at preparing our hearts for Jesus to come into them again.
O! God, send your blessing upon our wreath and
help us to understand its symbolism so that we might use it to help prepare our
for the coming of Christ.
